Badger-Byte: During the builder's trials the Badger made 32 1/2 knots and developed 37,500 shaft horsepower which exceeded spec. Todd Shipyard Engineers went over the Engine Room with a fine-tooth-comb trying to figure out why but they were unsuccessful in making any conclusive determinations. As a result, the Badger was considered the fastest of all the Knox-class.
